Definition
The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel includes: glucose, calcium, sodium, potassium, bicarbonate, chloride, BUN (blood urea nitrogen), creatinine, eGFR (kidney filtration rate), total protein, albumin, total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, AST, and ALT. It provides a foundational snapshot of organ function and metabolic status. However, the CMP does not include key markers for insulin resistance (fasting insulin, HOMA-IR), advanced cardiovascular risk (ApoB, Lp(a)), inflammation (hs-CRP), full thyroid function (free T3, free T4, antibodies), or hormone levels.
